We are looking for a dynamic, focussed and enthusiastic leader who can deliver complex new software solutions and services across the global business.
The Director of Software role will lead a global team of software, firmware and analytical scientists. They will also have responsibility for working with the Directors of R&D to ensure that software is integrated into the product development teams. The candidate must have very strong people management skills.
Customer engagement in the product development process will be an important element of the role and candidates should therefore be advocates of a customer centric design process.
Day to management of software teams
Delivery of new software solutions on the product development roadmap
Development of the data analytics strategy including AI, machine learning and remote diagnostics.
Technical leadership of the product development roadmaps working closely with Product Management
Design control and management of launched products
Leadership of new product introduction and full product lifecycle across the business.
Development of the efficiency and effectiveness of R&D monitored by Innovation KPIs
• Lean R&D for software – Agile PM
• Identification and implementation of efficiency enablers e.g. automated test
• Working closely with product management to implement value road mapping and value proposition validation.
Management of R&D budget inclusive of salaries and all external spending.
Development of a ‘technical career path’ for employees
Leadership of the OCR (organisation capability review) process
1st Class or 2:1 degree in relevant software engineering or science subject
Significant, senior level, commercial experience in software development leadership with experience of managing global engineering teams
Knowledge and experience of machine learning techniques and
Track record of delivering high quality, complex new products
Project management experience (including Agile)
Good understanding of business management including standards and procedures and business finance
Knowledge of Lean R&D processes and tools such as DFSS and Scrum.
