The purpose of the role is to support our internal and external customers with technical product support. This will involve problem solving and finding/implementing engineering solutions to existing seating products in the field and in production.
Accountable for the safe and reliable design of an aircraft seat across multiple programmes.
Working with the Lead Engineer, Certification and Project Engineers to ensure regulatory guidelines and requirements are met.
• On time completion of Engineering Change Requests (ECRs), SBs and DAPs.
• Right first time on root cause of problems.
• All known solutions to issues managed and introduced into production prior to seat delivery.
• To provide complete technical support of our aircraft seating products to our internal and external customers.
• To solve complex technical problems from cradle to grave through the use of structured problem solving techniques.
• To support the Lead Engineer in the day to day running of product support projects to ensure deliverables are on time and adhere to specification.
• To work on multiple projects concurrently whilst appropriately juggling priorities.
• Complete management of the technical change through the engineering change process, including supporting the operations team with the management of the introduction of the change.
• To peer check designs and drawing and have design approval authority.
• Assessing raised concessions/production permits for approval.
• Raising and communicating service bulletins and service instruction letters to our customers to support seat installation, technical issues and product change.
• All design and engineering tasks to be undertaken utilising Catia V5 CAD system. Substantiate and evaluate designs through 3D analysis, engineering calculations and where necessary, prototyping.
• To support cost down activities through parts rationalisation, cost down engineering, improving CAD/drawing quality and DFM/DFA activities.
• Ensure the design is carried out in accordance to the relevant Airframe specification.
• Ensure the design meets the aesthetic and technical ambitions of the customer.
• To provide technical guidance and mentorship to more junior members of the engineering team.
Essential
• A Mechanical Engineering degree
• Extensive post graduate experience in a mechanical engineering related field utilising design engineering and CAD for product design engineering, development and manufacture.
• Must be capable of undertaking fundamental engineering hand calculations including stress analysis.
• Must have experience of using problem solving techniques.
• Sufficient exposure to the latest manufacturing techniques such as composites, injection mouldings, vacuum forming, castings, forgings, extrusions and machined from solid.
• Must prove sufficient parametric 3D CAD capability with both solid and surface modelling using best practice techniques.
• Must be an excellent communicator both verbally and written.
• Must be capable of adapting to a fast and pressured environment.
• Desirable
• Degree achieved to be 2:1 or above.
• Experience in an aerospace seating environment.
• Catia V5 CAD & SmarTeam PDM system exposure.
